Ingredients for Julies Home Made Jam Buns

  • 225 g Self Raising Flour
  • A Pinch of Salt
  • 125 g caster Sugar
  • 85 g Butter or Margarine
  • A little granulated sugar for sprinkling
  • about 50 to 60 ml of milk

Optional extras for walkers:

  • Try adding oats to the pastry by making it a quarter oats and the rest flour
  • Or add some seeds and or nuts to the top before baking them

Method

  1. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and add the fat
  2. Cut into pieces and rub in finely until mix resembles breadcrumbs
  3. Stir in the sugar and make a well in the centre, then pour in the milk to each one
  4. Mix in any further ingredients adding further milk if necessary to give a stiff dough
  5. Turn onto a lightly floured board and kneed well until smooth and form into a 30 cm long cut stretch
  6. Cut into pieces 2 cm thick, put into a greased baking tray
  7. Make a whole i the centre of each one with a wooden spoon and fill with jam
  8. Brush with milk and sprinkle with a little sugar
  9. Cook just above the centre of a hot oven (Gas Mark 6 / 200 degrees Celsius for 15 to 20 minutes until risen and golden brown
